How Fiber Optic Cable Works?

The fiber optic cable is interesting because it takes a very long concept which is the manipulation of light, is nothing more than that, the controlled manipulation of light. If we go back to the history, the same Egyptians controlled light using mirrors to illuminate in the incredible pyramids… precursors of the optical fiber? Today the manipulation of light is controlled by a cable, with special finishes and special plates that make transmission possible and I will detail throughout this humble note.

The Consist of Optical Fiber and Fiber Optic Cable

The optical fiber is made of glass,and the function like the mirror we used every day, the mirror can reflection and refraction. That means the fiber optic cables operating principle is reflection and refraction.
The total internal reflection is the phenomenon ,occurs when a propagated wave strikes a medium boundary at an angle larger than a particular critical.

When the light travels through the optic fiber ,reflection and refraction in the optic fiber, the optic fiber is really a mirror,the coating layers is helpful to refraction and reduce the light loss. It make sure the light will totally go through the fiber optic cable from point to the endpoint with few loss.
